Play music. Play the Web. Songbird.
The screen capture above (which is a thumbnail and will display full size if you click on it) shows my freshly installed Songbird.
Songbird is a desktop media player mashed-up with the Web. Songbird is committed to playing the music you want, from the sites you want, on the devices you want, challenging the conventions of discovery, purchase, consumption and organization of music on the Internet.
On this page: http://www.howtoforge.com/installing_songbird_on_ubuntu_gutsy_gibbon is the installation guide that I followed. It contains an easy to understand step by step walk through. As the link tells it is a how to on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.
A convenient i386 .deb package is found at the getdeb.net website: http://www.getdeb.net/download.php?release=1801&fpos=0
Geek Girl is crazy about music.
I have connected my Last.fm account to this Last.fm radio player (see capture).
This is how you can do it too.
(you will need a last.fm account, obviously)
- Open the Add/Remove found under Applications.
- Type ‘lastfm’ in the search and check off the checkbox to Last.Fm. Apply the changes and let it install.
- Close.
It is now installed and can be found through Applications/Sound & Video/Last.fm. When you click on it the Setup Wizard for your Last.Fm player starts which only is about connecting to your Last.Fm account using your username and password.
